短短一周后，寻求往加密货币领域拓增税收的美国国税局就寻求法院批准John Doe传票，要求Kraken提供2016年至2020年之间任一年内至少进行了2万美元加密货币交易的Kraken账户，以追讨这些用户的所得税。

Kraken此前质疑该机构的传票是「不合理的寻宝活动」，认为国税局已经远远超出了美国地方法院法官约6年前在Coinbase类似案件中设定的界限，要求法院让国税局停止其调查。

2 Y* G; j$ i2 Z p# l但今日的裁决显然站在ZF那一边，旧金山联邦法院法官Joseph Spero指示Kraken注册公司Payward Inc.交出符合条件账户之用户姓名、出生日期和纳税人识别号码、地址、电话号码、电子邮件地址、一些文件和交易帐本。但不同意国税局要求的有关用户就业、净资产、财富来源以及Kraken反洗钱调查的信息。! ]: ]4 _& M& L! t

法官：美国税局有「合法目的」取得用户信息

法官在判决书中写道，美国国税局「有合法目的索取这些材料」，以在指定时间内确定用户的身份并纠正联邦所得税责任」。

0 W% D, D4 u1 O' v l1 m“国税局的要求得到了以下事实的支持：纳税人提交的比特币相关投资申报表「与Kraken上发生的交易活动量相比相形见绌」。2011年至2017年间，该交易所拥有400万客户，交易额超过1,400亿美元，每天注册的新用户多达5万名。”
